Goal Mass Upload

Contents

Overview

Customers interested in uploading large sets of goal data can utilize the template provided below and coordinate with their corresponding Betterworks team to ensure goals are successfully uploaded to the Betterworks application. Please prepare and submit a completed file template with all relevant goal information to your Betterworks Professional Services team.

Prerequisites

  • Professional Services Package: This process must be completed by the Betterworks Professional Services Team.
  • Spreadsheet Application: Such as Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.

File Requirements

This template must be filled out using the relevant field headers and descriptions.

  • The terms "goal" and "milestone" must be used in the template for upload purposes, regardless of the naming conventions in your organization's Betterworks instance.
  • You'll want to create a single file that contains all your goals and milestones listed in a way that the goal row has the milestone rows directly beneath it before the next goal row. It is the order of the rows that is used to group the milestones together under the goal above.
  • All fields included in the template should be included in the complete file. However, some fields may be left blank. See the Fields section for more information.
  • This upload cannot be undone. As such, is best practice to upload a sample of your data into your test or preview instance first to review and confirm accuracy.
  • Unless your organization has disabled notifications, users will be notified via email that they've been assigned to a goal and/or milestone once the file has been uploaded.

Fields

  • name: This is the short description of either the goal or milestone as it will appear in the Betterworks application. All milestones related to a goal should be included in the row(s) below the corresponding goal name.

  • type: Indicates if the name value is a goal or milestone.

  • progress: Must remain and can be between 0 (leave blank) and 100. It is always a percentage value for upload purposes, but can be edited to a different measure in the application after upload if needed.
  • start_date: Must be in US format (MM/DD/YYYY). The start date will typically be the start of the quarter or year, but can be any date if a goal started on a different date and can be in the past.

  • end_date: Must be in US format (MM/DDYYYY). The end date will typically be the end of the quarter or year, but can be any date that is not in the past.

  • owner_email: The email address of the person who owns the goal or milestone. These email addresses need to exist in the application connected to active users before the upload. Owners can be reassigned after the upload if needed. Only an individual can own a goal and milestone. If ownership by teams or departments is needed, this must be updated manually after the upload.

  • categories: This is an optional field and can be left blank. Categories are a way of tagging a goal based on the categories pre-defined by an administrator. See this article for more information on categories. These can be added later if needed, or will need to exist prior in Betterworks to upload if you'd like to include them. Semicolons are a separator for multiple categories.

  • description: This is an optional field and can be left blank. The description provides more information about a goal, which is displayed when users drill into the details of a goal. Only the type "goal" can have a description value, milestones cannot contain descriptions. A description can contain commas and line breaks as well as HTML links.

  • private: This column is required to be included, but should only be filled out for goals. The goal must be marked as "true" for private or "false" for public goals. The true/false logic cannot be applied to a milestone and therefore, must be left blank for milestone entries.
