Overview
Goal locking allows administrators to prevent goals and milestones from being edited, created, or deleted after a certain date in the organization's business period.
Setup
Note: If you are a Super Admin and would like to access goal locking, please contact your Program Architect or Customer Success Manager.
Once goal locking is available in your organization's Betterworks instance, you can enable it by going to Admin → Program Management → Goals → Settings → Lock
From here, you have the option to:
- Only lock goals
- Only lock progress
- Lock goals and progress
When only goals are locked, users will see the following banner.
When only progress is locked, users will the following banner.
When goals and progress are locked, users will see the following banner. It's the same as the banner used when only goals are locked.
Abilities
Note: Super Admins and Admins are not impacted by goal locking. They retain all of their previous abilities. HR Admins are impacted and will lose abilities related to goals and milestones.
As a user, you can do the following while goals are locked:
- Rename your goal or milestone
- Clone a goal (future business period only)
- Follow another user's goal
- Add, update, or delete your goal's categories
- Edit your goal's scope
- Edit your goal's type
- Add, update, or delete your goal's participants
- Add, update, or delete your goal's followers
- Comment on your goal or milestone
- Comment on another user's goal or milestone
- Cheer or nudge another user's goal
- Share any goal
- Assess your goal or milestone
- Score your goal or milestone
- End your goal early
As a user, you cannot do the following while goals are locked:
- Align your goal
- Edit your goal or milestone's progress settings
- Edit your goal or milestone's start/due dates
- Reassign your goal or milestone
- Add a milestone to your goal
- Convert your milestone into a goal
- Clone a goal (current business period)
- Change your goal's weight (if your goal is weighted)
- Move your milestone to another goal
- Delete your goal or milestone
As a user, you can do the following while progress is locked:
- Comment on your goal or milestone
- Comment on another user's goal or milestone
- Cheer or nudge another user's goal
- Assess your goal or milestone
As a user, you cannot do the following while progress is locked:
- Update your goal or milestone's progress
- Align your goal
- Edit your goal or milestone's start/due dates
- Reassign your goal or milestone
- Add a milestone to your goal
- Convert your milestone into a goal
- Clone a milestone (current business period)
- Delete your milestone
Note: Progress locking extends to milestones connected to third-party applications through our various integrations. For example, if your milestone is connected to JIRA, any progress made in JIRA will not impact the milestone when progress locking is on.
Program Emails
When goals and/or progress is locked, program emails will not trigger. As such, you'll want to ensure that program emails are configured to be sent prior to the lock period. You can view the configuration and make any necessary changes by going to Admin → Program Management → Notifications → Program Emails → Goals
