Manager Insights Overview

Contents

Introduction

Note: If your organization doesn't have access to this feature, please contact your Customer Success Manager to enable it.

The Manager Insights tab (within the Insights module) provides a dashboard for managers to easily view their team's performance and activity in Betterworks. By extension, Manager Insights helps managers guide their teams for better performance at an individual level and at a team level.

  • Dashboard: Our dashboard includes 13 metrics. These metrics allow managers to understand their team's behavior as well as potential growth so that they can motivate team members as needed.

Note: Ad blocker extensions in your browser will prevent data from displaying. To resolve this, disable the ad blocker while using Betterworks or add app.betterworks.com to the safelist in the ad blocker settings (eu.betterworks.com for organizations on the EU data center).

  • Timeframe: Managers can switch quarters or enter a custom date range.

  • Filters: There are filters at the department, manager, and individual levels as well as a filter for conversation names.

  • Drill-down functionality: Managers can click on any card in the dashboard and view more
    details.
  • Take Actions: Managers can also take actions (i.e. "View" or "Send email") to a particular employee from the drill-down page.

Note: The "Send email" function opens your email client. These notifications do not go through the Betterworks application.

Note:

  • If a direct report's conversations contain additional contributors, the additional contributors' completion will impact the direct report's overall conversation completion rate. This means that if the direct report and manager complete their respective sides of a conversation, but the additional contributors do not, the conversation status will indicate that the conversation is incomplete and the direct report's overall conversation completion rate will decrease. Also, if a direct report is an additional contributor, the conversation that they are contributing to will be displayed among their conversations in the "View" overlay.
  • If "confirm meeting" is enabled in your conversation cycle, the individual conversation completion percentage will reach 100% once the meeting has been confirmed by either participant (direct report or manager). This occurs even if one participant has not yet shared responses, as it is assumed that all necessary discussions have taken place, and the conversation is marked as complete regardless of any outstanding tasks.

Settings & Access

Once Manager Insights has been enabled for your organization, administrators can determine the specific dashboard settings and benchmarks that will appear. Administrators can update these dashboard settings by going to:

Admin → Program Management → Manager Insights v2 → Settings

Managers will only be able to see data on their immediate teams and cannot search for or view data on employees in their downline. Top-level leaders are able to view data for both their direct reports and any employee that falls in their downline.

FAQs

Are confidential questions visible to everyone?

When conversations between managers and direct reports contain confidential questions, they will only be visible to Super and HR Admins since confidential questions aren’t visible to managers.

  • When a manager filters and drills into information for a specific conversation that contains confidential questions in Manager Insights, and both parties have shared their answers but the completion isn’t 100%, this is because the direct report hasn’t completed the confidential questions; completion rates display % completion based on if confidential questions have been completed.
  • When drilling into the information you may see that even if both parties have shared, UI completion doesn’t reflect 100% because managers can only drive completion of what is visible to them.
  • There is a current enhancement request (ANALYTICS-I-103) to 'Exclude Confidential Questions from Overall Completion Status on Manager Insights'. No commitment or timeline has been set.
